Killing someone when you don’t have to is what’s extreme

Young man bagging my groceries: “Tofurky. I guess you’re a vegetarian.”

Me: “Nope. Vegan.”

Him: “So that’s more extreme, right?”

Me: “Not at all. I just don’t want to kill anyone if I don’t have to. Killing someone when you don’t have to is what’s extreme. Killing tens of billions of someones when you don’t need to is what’s extreme.”
