When it comes to the question of how we should treat nonhuman animals, there are many opinions, but only two answers that make any real sense. Either it is okay to use all the other animals of the world as nothing more than resources for our own benefit, or it is not.

The middle ground—the place where people go when they would rather not make a choice—is untenable.
